Understanding Your Symptoms

Sciatica pain varies from person to person. Some experience sharp, shooting pain. Others describe tingling, “pins and needles,” or numbness. Your calf or leg might feel tight or weak. During your first visit, Dr. Mike or Dr. Dana will carefully assess where your pain is coming from—whether it’s spinal bones, intervertebral discs, or muscles compressing the sciatic nerve—so they can target treatment precisely.

Our Proven Treatment

Research shows that chiropractic care for sciatica delivers excellent patient outcomes compared to medical management—and it’s more cost-effective too. Depending on where the nerve impingement is happening, we use a customized combination of chiropractic adjustments, therapeutic stretching, myofascial release, McKenzie exercises, and acupuncture.

The goal of our treatment is to “centralize” your pain—gradually moving it up and out of your leg and back into your lower back where we can treat it more effectively.

You’ll also receive specific at-home exercises, including McKenzie movements that help speed your recovery between visits.

We recommend lumbar support cushions for your office chair and car, along with behavior modifications to prevent aggravating the nerve. After you’ve recovered, core strengthening exercises and periodic maintenance adjustments help prevent future flare-ups.

Timeline and Results

Most sciatica cases improve significantly within 4-6 weeks of consistent care, though some patients feel dramatically better within just a few days. Healing time depends on what’s causing your sciatica and how severe it is. Cases involving serious degenerative disc disease or spinal stenosis may take longer. Dr. Mike and Dr. Dana monitor your progress closely. If you’re not improving within 4 weeks of active treatment, they’ll refer you for an MRI or orthopedic consultation. They’re committed to getting you better—even if that means referring you elsewhere.

Frequently Asked Questions

How quickly will I feel relief?

Many patients notice improvement within their first few treatments. The pain should gradually move up your leg and out—that’s a sign it’s working.

Will I need surgery?

Most sciatica responds well to conservative chiropractic care. Surgery is rarely necessary, and we’ll help you avoid it if possible.

Can you help if I’ve had sciatica for months?

Yes. Even chronic sciatica typically responds to our treatment approach, though it may take longer than acute cases.
