PREGNANCY

Pregnancy chiropractic care Chiropractic care is a safe and effective way to help relieve and even prevent the common discomforts experienced in pregnancy. Specific adjustments eliminate the stresses in your spine, restore balance to your pelvis and result in greater comfort and ease with daily activities.

Both Dr. Dana and Dr. Mike are certified Webster Technique practitioners. Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic analysis and chiropractic adjustment protocol that can be used safely throughout pregnancy. The goal of Webster is to improve pelvic, sacral and sacroiliac function as well as to reduce tightening and torsion of specific pelvic muscles and ligaments. By balancing the pelvic structures as well as reducing any nerve impingements in that area, Webster technique promotes the mother having a successful natural child birth.

Studies have found other great benefits to receiving chiropractic care while pregnant. Research by Dr. Joan Fallon has shown that first time mothers that receive chiropractic care during their pregnancy can reduce natural labor times by 24%, and second and third time moms by 39%. Another study by Dr. Irving Henderson concluded that pregnant women who received chiropractic care in the third trimester “were able to carry and deliver with more comfort”. In addition, research performed by Dr. Per Freitag concluded that pain medication during delivery of child was reduced by half in patients under regular chiropractic care.

Celar Chiropractic also uses acupuncture and moxibustion as treatment options for pregnant women.  Studies have shown that acupuncture and moxibustion are safe and effective modalities to help correct breech position in a clinical setting.  Moxibustion is an externally applied traditional Chinese medicine treatment using the Chinese herb Moxa (Artemisia Argyi), commonly known as “Mugwort”. The Moxa is compressed into a cigar shaped stick, that is heated and applied over acupuncture points known to activate the uterus, encourage the baby to become more active, and hopefully move into the head down position. Each session is 20 minutes and usually begins around 32-35 weeks of pregnancy.
