Celar Chiropractic Believes in Deep Tissue Massage

The doctors of Celar Chiropractic believe that deep tissue massage therapy, myofascial release, trigger point therapy and Thai massage therapy are important adjunct procedures to chiropractic manipulation. Frequently Asked Questions

"How does massage work?"

Massage works by kneading and stroking muscles to relax them, and uses friction to stimulate soft tissues. This type of therapy can increase blood flow and lymph circulation while breaking up scar tissue that develops between muscle fibers.

"When and why is massage used?"

Therapeutic massage can vary with each individuals condition, age and body type. The massage therapists consult the doctors to understand the patient’s condition before the massage begins. Massage is useful in many conditions that require decreased muscle tightness, reduction of swelling, muscle mobilization or simply body relaxation for people who are "stressed out." If you are a new patient, the doctors will go over your treatment plan and help decide if massage therapy is right for your particular condition.

"What can I expect?"

The massages are performed in a private room with licensed massage therapists. The patient can remove as much clothing as they feel comfortable with. Only areas that need treatment are exposed, other areas are covered with a sheet. The patient should feel relaxed and comfortable while on the massage table. In deep tissue massage, a lubricating oil or gel is used to reduce friction during the stroking and compression of soft tissue. The massage may also include passive stretching to increase mobility in joints. We encourage you to give feedback to the therapist if you feel uncomfortable in any way.

"Does health insurance pay for massages?"

Some insurance companies do provide insurance coverage for massage, while other insurance companies do not cover massage therapy at all. Rarely will an insurance company pay 100% for a massage treatment.  If you do not have health insurance, the price is $80 for 1 hour and $40 for ½ hour. Since we use massage therapy as an important part of the care plan, we reserve our massages for our chiropractic patients only.

"What is Thai massage and Shiatsu massage?"

Thai massage is an interactive manipulation of the body using passive stretching and gentle acupressure (or Shiatsu) along oriental energy meridians.  These movements help to increase flexibility, relieve muscular and joint tension, stimulate internal organs and balance the body's energy system.  The effect is uniquely relaxing as well as energizing.  Receiving a Thai massage is a little like doing yoga without putting forth any effort, while also getting acupressure treatments.  Sessions are performed on a floor mat with the patient dressed in comfortable clothing.  This ancient therapy is beneficial for all ages and states of health.

Dr. Mike Asks some important questions of interest to Hillside residents - Chiropractor Hillside Dr. Mike Asks...

Will chiropractic adjustments make my spine too loose?
No. Only the spinal joints that are fixated and "locked up" receive attention. The occasional spinal joint that moves too much is passed over so weakened muscles and ligaments can strengthen and heal.
Would you rather feel good or be healthy?
Ask most people in Hillside and they want to feel good. Careful! Would you take medicine that makes you feel good, rather than vomit to expel improperly prepared food? Every chiropractic patient knows that you can't measure your health by how you feel. True health is when your body works as it should.
