Introducing Hillside Chiropractor Dr. Mike Kochanski

Dr. Mike Kochanski

"I just wish I had known then what I know now!"

Have you ever thought that? Wouldn't you like to share that knowledge with someone you love?

My name is Dr. Michael Kochanski. Let me tell you a little bit about my story...

I grew up in a suburb of Milwaukee and got my bachelor degree from the University of Wisconsin. In college, I began having difficulty breathing and chest tightness.  One morning, I woke up with what felt like a 100-pound brick on my chest. I thought, "I am way too young to be having a heart attack!".  Shortly after, on my 20th birthday, I could hardly blow out the candles on my cake.  My doctor diagnosed me with asthma and gave me a prescription for an inhaler.  But I did not want to rely on drugs that never worked that well anyway.

I was still undecided on what I wanted to do in life. I always knew that I wanted to choose a profession where I could help people.  After a friend recommended seeing a chiropractor, I knew exactly what I wanted to do in life.  However, I was a little skeptical before my first visit...

The chiropractor examined me and explained that my spine was out of place and irritating the nerves. Then he treated me by performing an adjustment to my spine. The adjustment didn't hurt, it actually felt good. I started feeling better right away, and my chest tightness was relieved.  I thought, "Wow, I could actually use MY hands to help others feel better.  How cool is that?"

I chose to get my doctor of chiropractic at the National University of Health Sciences because of it's strong emphasis on science as well as the art of chiropractic. Being in Lombard, it also was close to Chicago, which I think is on of the greatest cities in the world.  After graduating from chiropractic school, I went on to study acupuncture and received a Fellowship from the International Academy of Medical Acupuncture.

We strive to be a family practice that listens to our patient's needs and provide safe, effective treatment to help quickly decrease pain.  Once we stabilize the condition, our goal is to improve the overall function and maintain the health of the "problem" areas.

Many times we see patients who have tried "everything else".  We love it one someone says "I wish I would have come here years ago!".

We like to be active in our community.  We often do free educational classes for our patients and local social groups and businesses.

We recently had our first child, a daughter named Sienna.  She keeps us busy when we are away from work.  So does our big yellow lab Max.  He's no longer the center of attention and gets a little jealous at times. We enjoy living in Chicago, dining out at new restaurants and the lakefront.

But enough about us! How can we help you with today's safe and natural chiropractic care?  Give us a call so we can help you take your first step towards better health.

Dr. Mike Asks some important questions of interest to Hillside residents - Chiropractor Hillside Dr. Mike Asks...

What's the difference between sick care and health care?
Sick care is largely about relieving or suppressing symptoms. Health care is about improving performance. While sick care is about how you feel, health care is about how you function. Sick care is what you do to treat an obvious problem, and health care is what you do to avoid the problem and advance your well-being.
What causes vertebral subluxations?
Chiropractors acknowledge three types of stress: physical, chemical and emotional. When the adaptive capacity of your body is compromised, weakened areas along the spine can become involved. Muscles tighten, spinal joints lock up and nearby nerves are affected. The purpose of chiropractic care is to find these areas and restore balance, alignment and motion.
